The 2024-2025 Guide has been updated to reflect development of the '6th Generation' of ECDIS. This new generation demonstrates use of AI in navigation, with automatic COLREG recommendations now integrated into the software. Dynamic squat and automatic UKC tools have also been added, with new routeing charts integrated to make AI generated route calculations more fuel efficient for ships. While there are many advantages to these technological advances, the Guide also outlines potential problems and procedures for best practice. Volume 2 is entirely online and features Quick Reference Guides for the leading ECDIS manufacturers. It also includes familiarisation checklists and key menu functions to be aware of when operating specific systems.
Hardcopy expected in stock from 18th June 2024. This 2024-25 edition sets out procedures for the correct configuration of ECDIS and, utilising the APEM (appraisal, planning, execution and monitoring) methodology, highlights best practices for passage planning and watchkeeping.
This publication is a guide to ECDIS safety setting and under keel clearance (UKC) management. This booklet aims to provide a deeper insight into the principal Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) safety settings and provide guidance to ensure they are understood by the ECDIS operator. It explains how under keel clearance (UKC) should be calculated and effectively managed by the navigator.
This publication has been written for personnel who design and deliver training programmes. It covers the requirements for Navigation Aids and Equipment Simulator Training (NAEST) Operational and Management certification, Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) training, and Small Ships Navigation and Radar training, set out in Chapter II of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended, and corresponding sections of the STCW Code.
