The aim of this publication is to help create training courses that provide Masters and officers with the necessary knowledge, understandingand proficiency to safely and efficiently manage the ship’s resources and personnel. Training courses developed in line with this criteria will cover:

  • At operational level: the mandatory requirements relevant to the application of leadership and teamworking skills and, when combined with tasks within the deck and engineer officer Training Record Books (TRB), to bridge and engine-room resource management
  • at management level: the mandatory requirements relevant to the use of leadership and managerial skills.

The specifications described in this document have been developed by the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) in conjunction with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and satisfy MCA requirements for approved training.
